The Chhattisgarh government on Monday dismissed reports carried by some news channels and web portals about a plane crash in the Narayanpur hills in Jashpur district.
“Some news channels and web portals have reported a plane crash in the Narayanpur hills in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district. There are no reports of such an accident,” the government said.
Collector-Led Team Finds No Trace Of Crash
Jashpur Collector Rohit Vyas said authorities rushed to the spot after learning about the reports but found no evidence of any such incident.
“We received information through the media about a plane crash in the Narayanpur area. As soon as we received the information, SSP, I, and our entire team arrived at the scene. Our team inspected the surrounding area. However, we have not yet found any evidence of a plane crash. Drone surveillance is also underway. The Forest Department team is scouring the mountain and the forest. But so far, no evidence of any wreckage or debris has been found, nor has any evidence of a plane crash been found. We have also discussed with the villagers. No one has seen such a plane crash, nor has anyone heard any sound of any kind of explosion. So far, no one has confirmed that a plane is missing...” he said.
Initial Reports Suggested Low-Altitude Crash
Earlier reports had claimed that an aircraft crashed after hitting a tree in the Ratanpahli forest in the Narayanpur area of Jashpur.
The incident was said to have taken place near Khurasagarha village under the Narayanpur police station limits.
According to initial information, the aircraft was flying at a height of around 30 feet from the ground when the accident occurred.
Search Operations Continue, Confirmation Awaited
Reports had indicated that rescue teams were dispatched to the spot to carry out relief operations.
A police officer had earlier said that official confirmation was still pending.
“I am also heading to the spot; it is difficult to say anything at this stage,” the officer said.
Further details are awaited.
