As the powered descent of the lander began at around 1.38 am, scientists at Isro Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) were glued to their terminals, anticipating the soft landing. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and soon after a successful rough braking phase, the lander lost contact making the environment tensed and anxious. Isro Chairman K Sivan was seen engaged in intense discussions with some scientists.
A post landing press conference was called off by the ISRO officials and PM Modi, who was present at the Bengaluru control centre to watch the landing live spoke to the scientists and later in a a tweet consoled them and said “Nation is proud of you.” Here's how leaders from different political parties reacted to the development:
