"They (BJP) have no other work. At times, the Home Minister is here, other times its Chaddha, Nadda, Fadda, Bhaddha. When they've no audience, they call their workers for doing nautanki," CM Banerjee said while addressing a public rally in Kolkata.

The TMC supremo said that the BJP has a "prepared script" to divert the attention of people, break the movements against it, and is trying to do so with the ongoing farmers' movement too. "The Narendra Modi government is not abiding by the principles of democracy or the federal structure or the Constitution and is encroaching upon the jurisdiction of a state government," she said.

"You have so many CISF-BSF commandos. Then how can they touch your car? What about your people who go around with shot guns," Banerjee asked, referring to the death of a BJP worker from injures from a shotgun. Police have denied using that variety of firearms.

Attack on BJP President's convoy is an attack on democracy: BJP Leaders

On Thursday, stones were pelted on the convoy of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda, and General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s vehicle was ransacked, while the two leaders were on their way to Diamond Harbour to meet party workers for the upcoming Bengal assembly elections in 2021.

Accusing Trinamool Congress supporters of instigating the ambush, senior BJP leaders termed the act as an attack on democracy. The BJP leaders and senior ministers also demanded the strictest possible action against "goons" who carried out the attack.

Nadda, at a press conference, slammed Mamata Banerjee and said that the attack on his convoy speaks a lot about her mentality and her party. He also slammed the TMC for the corruption in the state and said that 'cut money is the order of the day, way of life under TMC rule in West Bengal'.

Following the attack, the Union Home Ministry sought a report from the Bengal government on alleged "serious security lapses" during the visit of BJP president JP Nadda to the state. Nadda is entitled to Z-Plus security cover, which has been granted by the Home Ministry.

The Bengal government has said that it had received no request to provide security to Nadda. The point was emphasised by Mamata Banerjee. "You don't inform the state, but when there is a problem, you blame the state," she said.

Apart from seeking a report from the state government, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also condemned the attack on the BJP chief and said the state has descended into an era of tyranny, anarchy, and darkness under the TMC rule.
