Centre Reserves MBBS, BDS Seats For Children Of 'Terror Victims' In J&K

For the academic year 2022-23 in J&K, the Centre has decided to preserve a "reserved quota" for "terror victims" in MBBS and BDS programmes.

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (J&K BOPEE) issued an order on Sunday stating that children affected by terrorism will now be eligible for reservations in MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) courses through the central pool system.

For the school year 2022-23, the seats would be allotted from a central pool to the wives and children of terrorist victims. For this reason, the J&K reservation policy would apply to the central pool MBBS and BDS seats, according to the official statement.

Previously, this reservation was not for these children; however, these children will now have reservations in this category.

According to the policy, precedence would be given to children whose both parents were slain by terrorists, followed by children from homes whose main breadwinner was killed by terrorists.

The wards of victims with lasting impairments and significant injuries caused by terrorists will be the third priority. The decision was made with the agreement of the Government of India's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

“The children of the employees of central, other states, union territory government on deputation to the concerned state, or union territory are also eligible for the reservation quota,” the BOPEE notification said.

Candidates must be the children of permanent residents of the relevant state or union territory or the children of workers of the concerned state or union territory government, according to the eligibility requirements established by J&K BOPEE.

Children of employees of the central government, governments of neighbouring states, or union territories with headquarters in the affected state would also be eligible.

"The offspring of the aforementioned central government, state, or union territory government personnel shall be regarded on par with locals," the statement added.

The candidate must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English separately with a minimum of 50 percent marks.

According to the J&K BOPEE notice, applicants will be chosen based on their performance in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-2022, which will be administered by the National Testing Agency.
