New Delhi: The central government asked the states to provide them with the data of deaths due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of Covid - 19 pandemic this year.


News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that these figures will be placed on the table of Parliament before the monsoon session ends on August 13.

Significantly, earlier this year, due to the huge increase in the cases of Covid - 19, the health services of the country were seen to be completely faltering. There was a severe shortage of beds, medicines and vaccines in hospitals across the country.


The lack of medical oxygen made the situation worse. In such a difficult situation, India had to import oxygen from many countries, on the basis of an emergency. Many Covid patients died due to lack of oxygen.

In the month of May, in Goa, more than 80 people died in the state-run hospital. 11 Covid patients were admitted to the ICU of the hospital in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, who died due to interruption in the supply of oxygen. 


Seven people died due to the non-availability of oxygen for two hours in the hospital in Hyderabad. Many states have approached the court regarding oxygen supply. Whereas, the Center had started Oxygen Express to ensure the supply of oxygen.
