New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Wednesday said that the Lokpal has ordered a CBI probe against Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra into the cash-for-query scandal.
He claimed that the probe has been ordered against Moitra after he complained to the anti-corruption body. He accused Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.
"On basis of my complaint, Lokpal has ordered a CBI probe into the Mahua Moitra's corruption that compromises national security," the BJP MP said in a post on platform X.
Last month, Dubey complained about Moitra to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla alleging that the TMC MP accepted bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in parliament on his behalf to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Adani Group.
Moitra has denied the charge of receiving any pecuniary benefit.
The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha is probing the allegations. The 15-member committee has seven members from the BJP, three from the Congress, and one each from BSP, Shiv Sena, YSRCP, CPI(M) and JDU.
The committee will meet on November 9 to adopt a draft report on the cash-for-query allegation against TMC MP.
However, the committee is likely to take a grim view of the charges against Moitra, more so after she accused its chief Vijay Sonkar of asking filthy and personal questions to her in the last meeting before walking out in a rage along with opposition members.
The ethics panel was scheduled to meet on Tuesday to consider and adopt its draft report but the meeting was rescheduled for Thursday.
On Tuesday, Moitra had claimed that the meeting was postponed to keep a Congress member away from the proceedings and adopt the report by a majority.
