Three fire engines, one rescue van, and other vehicles were deployed near the Mumbai airport runway after the Bengaluru-bound aircraft had to make an emergency landing at the airport. The Ethiopian Airlines cargo jet ET 690 which was flying from Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) to Bengaluru had to make an emergency landing in Mumbai due to a hydraulic failure.

Precautionary measures were taken after a request made to the Mumbai Fire Department from the Mumbai airport. An emergency was declared for freighter flight ET690 from Riyadh to Bengaluru and the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai due to a hydraulic leakage, the MIAL spokesperson said.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport in Mumbai is the second busiest airport in the country, 14th in Asia, and 28th in the world in terms of passenger traffic. Spread across a sprawling 750 hectares, the three-terminal airport handles around 950 flights from international and domestic carriers.

It has also won the "Best Airport in India and Central Asia" award at the Skytrax 2016 World Airport Awards. It is one of the three airports in India to have implemented Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) to ensure timely takeoffs and landings.
