Cabinet Expansion: Hours after 43 new ministers took the oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to be inducted in the central cabinet, the centre has allocated portfolios to the new Council of Ministers.


To the build-up of this cabinet rejig, 12 ministers including some strong old guards - Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar - resigned hinting at a major overhaul in the Central Cabinet. 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be monitoring the Ministry of Science & Technology while Amit Shah is to monitor the newly formed Ministry of Cooperation besides being the Union Home Minister.


Ministry of Health has been handed over to Mansukh Mandaviya who will also be in charge of the Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry.


Anurag Thakur, who was earlier the Minister of State Finance and Corporate Affairs, has now got an even bigger portfolio as he has been assigned to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry along with the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs. 


Ashwini Vaishnaw will be the Minister of Railways as well Minister of IT and Communications. Meanwhile, Piyush Goyal has been handed over the Ministry of Commerce in addition to the Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Consumer Welfare.


Turncoat Jyotiraditya Scindia has been awarded Civil Aviation Ministry. 


Smriti Irani will be the Woman and Child Development Minister and will also look after the Swacch Bharat Mission.


Pashupati Paras has been given the Ministry of Food, Processing and Industries while R K Singh will be the new Law Minister of India.


Meenakshi Lekhi has been named the Minister of State for External Affairs.
