New Delhi: Counting of votes for byelection to seven assembly seats in six states concluded on Sunday with Bharatiya Janata Party winning on four assembly constituencies which includes seats from Adampur in Haryana, Gola Gokarannath in Uttar Pradesh, Gopalganj in Bihar, and Dhamnagar in Odisha while Rashtriya Janata Dal clinched the Mokama seat in Bihar and Shiv Sena secured Mumbai's Andheri (East) seat. Telangana Rashtriya Samiti claimed the Munugode seat in the bypolls. 


The counting of polls had started at 8 am earlier today where the elections took place on November 3 and 4. 


Bihar Byelection 


The main contest in Bihar's two seats, Gopalganj and Mokama, was between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal. From Mokama seat, RJD's Neelam Devi whose husaband Anant Singh's disqualification has necessitated the by-election defeated BJP's Sonam Devi with 16,741 votes. 


In a three-faced contest in Gopalganj, BJP's Kusum Devi — wife of deceased party MLA Subhash Singh — led with 1,794 votes, defeating RJD's Mohan Gupta and Indira Yadav, wife of Lalu Yadav’s brother-in-law Sadhu Yadav, from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). 


Haryana Byelection


BJP's Bhavya Bishnoi secured the Adampur seat in Haryana's Hisar in today's byelection defeating Congress' Jai Prakash with 15,740 votes. Bishnoi, grandson of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, led the contest with 17,633 votes while former Union minister, a three-time MP from Hisar and two-time MLA Jai Prakash got 11, 398 votes.


The bypoll was necessitated after former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal's younger son Kuldeep Bishnoi resigned as MLA and switched sides from BJP to Congress.


Uttar Pradesh Byelection 


Gola Gokarannath seat in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district fell vacant after the death of BJP MLA Arvind Giri on September 6. In a direct fight between the BJP's Aman Giri and the SP candidate, former Gola MLA Vinay Tiwari, Giri won the seat defeating his nearest rival by over 34,000 votes.


Mumbai Byelection


Shiv Sena's Rutuja Latke — whose husband and Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke passed away in May necessitating the bypoll comfortably won Andheri East Assembly constituency in Mumbai after the BJP withdrew from the contest which was the first after the recent split in the Shiv Sena following a rebellion by Eknath Shinde, who replaced Thackeray as the Maharashtra chief minister.


Telangana Byelection 


Telangana Rashtra Samiti's Koosukuntla Prabhakar Reddy won the contest from Telangana's Munugode seat, defeating BJP's Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy with a margin of 10,113 votes. The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of sitting Congress MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy from the party in August.


Odisha Byelection 


BJP's Suryabanshi Suraj clinched the Dhampur seat in Odisha's Bhadrak district defeating rival Biju Janata Dal's Abanti Das by a margin of 9881 votes. The Dhamnagar seat fell vacant following the death of BJP MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi in September.
