New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday cautioned people, especially the youth, against “revdi (sweet) culture” which sought votes with promises of freebies. He said that this can be “very dangerous” for the development of the country. While addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the 296-km Bundelkhand Expressway, he hit out at previous dispensations in Uttar Pradesh for the lack of connectivity and said the "double-engine" government now was ensuring major transformations of the state with fast-improving connectivity.

He said while the travel time from Delhi to Chitrakoot has been reduced by three to four hours because of the Bundelkhand Expressway, however, that is not the only benefit of it.

"This expressway will not only give speed to the vehicles but will also accelerate the industrial progress of the entire Bundelkhand," he said, according to PTI.

He then cautioned people, especially the youth, against the "revdi culture" and said it could be "very dangerous" for the country's development. 'Revari' is a popular sweet, especially in north India.

"In our country today, attempts are being made to bring a culture of garnering votes by distributing 'revdi'. This 'revdi culture' is very dangerous for the development of the country. People of the country and especially the youth need to guard against this culture," PM Modi said.

He further praised the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, for the major transformation in law and order and the fast-improving connectivity. Modi asked people to recall the state of law and order and connectivity in Uttar Pradesh earlier. He hailed the work being done by the "double engine" government in Uttar Pradesh.

"We are not only creating new facilities for the present but are also building the future of the country," he said.
