New Delhi: A Mumbai sessions court rejected the bail plea of accused Vishal Kumar in the Bulli Bai app case on Tuesday. The 21-year-old B.Tech student is currently lodged in jail after being arrested by Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch in January this year.
In January, a Delhi Court had turned down the bail application of Bulli Bai app creator Neeraj Bishnoi while a Mumbai local court had remanded accused Shweta Singh and Mayank Rawat to 14-day judicial custody.
Bishnoi’s bail application was rejected by the Delhi court noting that a villification campaign against Muslim women contining derogatory content and offending material having communal overtones was run on the Bulli Bai app.
Three persons, Vishal Kumar, Shweta Singh and Mayank Tiwari were arrested by the Mumbai Police while the app creator Neeraj Bishnoi, was arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell in connection with the Bulli Bai App Case.
One more person, Neeraj Singh was arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with the case in January this year.
On January 1, this year details of more than 100 Muslim women were put out on an app hosted on GitHub allowing users to participate in an ‘auction’ of thos women.
The incident had sparked widespread outrage, with Opposition leaders demanding a clampdown on such apps. A similar case, ‘Sulli Deals’ had taken place in July last year where photos of Muslim women were posted online for “auction”.
The Cyber Cell of Mumbai Police had said that investigations suggested that persons accused in the Bulli Bai app case were also involved in the Sulli Deals app case.
