BULANDSHAHR: The family of inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who lost his life on Monday in a mob attack in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, has claimed a conspiracy in his killing saying the cop was killed because he probed the Akhlaq lynching case in 2015. Calling the murder of Kumar as pre-planned, his wife Rajani asked the police to reveal the names of those involved in this "conspiracy". She also said their family had received several threats in the past when Kumar took up probe in the infamous lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri.

"I didn't know what happened. Some said he was pelted with stones, others said he was shot at. We were told to come to the hospital and we went hopeless," Rajani said, adding that if the police try to save the culprits, it would be as if they want her to commit suicide.

She said her family was threatened when Subood was probing the Akhlaq lynching case and out of fear they could not go out of the house for days.
"We used to get threat calls and were asked to stay inside for days. It became difficult for us to even get vegetables for cooking food. Our children used to go to school in a private cab and I could not walk out of home," she added. "It's a total conspiracy."

"He worked with utter honesty and took all the responsibility on himself. This is not the first incident, he had bullet injuries twice before but now nobody is giving him justice. Justice will be done only if his killers are killed," Rajani said.

Subodh Kumar's sister alleged the same and said that the violence was staged to eliminate his brother. "My brother was investigating Akhlaq case and that is why he was killed. It's a conspiracy by Police," she said. "He should be declared martyr and memorial should be built. We do not want money."

"The cow is our mother, I accept that. My brother has given his life for her. The CM used to chant 'gau, gau, gau'. Why can't he come for cow protection?" she said in an emotional outburst against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Subodh Kumar, who was posted at the Siana Police Station, was killed as a mob protesting over illegal cow slaughter went on a rampage on Monday torching a police post and clashing with police, which opened fire. The postmortem report of Kumar has revealed that the cop died due to bullet injury. He was also attacked with stones and sharp weapons.

He probed the case from September 28, 2015, till November 9, 2015. The charge-sheet was filled in the case by a different investigating officer in March 2016.

Subodh's son said his father wanted him to be a good citizen who doesn't provoke violence over religion. "My father has lost his life in this Hindu-Muslim dispute. Whose father is next?" Abhishek Singh said. He said the last time his father called he asked about his studies and if he had eaten
