New Delhi: The Opposition parties held a meeting today in the Parliament House which was also attended by the Trinamool Congress for the first time. Wearing black clothes, the opposition parties have decided to protest against disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha and will take out a march from Gandhi statue to VIjay Chowk today, sources told ABP News.
The proceedings of the Parliament for the second leg of the Budget Session will resume today after both the Houses were adjourned on March 24 amid uproar by the Opposition over Adani row. The treasury benches were also seen shouting slogans against Rahul Gandhi.
The Opposition parties have decided to oppose the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as Lok Sabha MP on Friday, a day after a Surat court found him guilty in a 2019 defamation case over his 'Modi surname' remark during 2019 poll campaign in Karnataka.
Ahead of the proceedings of the House, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, in a black kurta, said that he will show his black watch and "tell them (BJP) that your time is up."
"When we speak in Parliament, they don't let the House function. When we speak outside, they take a decision that leads to disqualification. When we sit in protest in black clothes in front of these black-hearted people who butcher democracy, I'll show them my black watch and tell them that your time is up and democracy would come to the country after 2024. Opposition would form the government with a 3/4 majority," the Congress MP told news agency ANI.
17 parties participated in today's meeting including Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal (United), Bharath Rashtr Samithi, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Rashtriya Janata Dal, Nationalist Congress Party, Communist Party of India, Indiam Union Muslim League, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Kerala Congress, Trinamool Congress, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Aam Aadmi Party, J&K National Conference, and Shiv Sena (Uddav Balasaheb Thackeray).
