A constable of the Border Security Force was reported missing from his post near the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, said the officials on Saturday. Hailing from Bihar, the constable was on general duty at the Bharani forward post in Balakote sector when he went missing on Friday, they said, according to a PTI report. A search operation was carried out by BSF troops to find the jawan who could not be traced following which a missing report was lodged with the concerned police station, the report added.

The incident comes just a month after an Army soldier went missing from Kashmir's Kulgam district when he came to visit his family during his leave. The soldier, identified as Javaid Ahmad Wani went missing on July 29,while his car was found in Paranhall, prompting fears that he could have been abducted by terrorists.

A week later, Wani was found by Kugam Police.

"Missing Army jawan has been recovered by Kulgam Police. Joint interrogation will start shortly after medical checkup. Further details shall follow: ADGP Kashmir," Kashmir Zone Police had posted on X.

Last year in October, a BSF jawan went missing after he fell into the Bhagirathi river while chasing cattle smugglers in West Bengal’s Murshidabad.

Troops of Border Out Post Bhagirathi, 115 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, observed the movement of smugglers in the Char area across river Bhagirathi, as per an ANI report.

While a BSF patrolling party was moving towards smugglers, the boat faced heavy turbulence in the middle of the river Bhagirathi, Constable Amit Kumar fell into a high water current, the report added.
