Breaking News Live: 6 Killed, 50 Injured In Bus Accident In Pakistan's Punjab Province

An overloaded speeding bus carrying Christian pilgrims for a religious gathering overturned while taking a turn in Pakistan's Punjab province on Sunday, killing at least six people and injuring 50 others, as reported by the news agency PTI. The accident took place in Sheikhupura, some 50 km from Lahore.


According to rescue officials, the bus was carrying Christian pilgrims to the religious gathering at the National Marian Shrine in Mariamabad when it overturned while taking a turn at Khanka Dogran, Shiekhupura.


Police and rescue officials reached the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital. They said that six passengers died on the spot while the condition of five is stated to be critical, PTI reported. The officials said the bus carrying 60 passengers was overloaded.


They said that the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle while negotiating a turn.

Breaking News Live: 2 Men Held With Gold Worth Rs 8 Cr In Madhya Pradesh

Police have detained two men travelling on a scooter after seizing gold worth about Rs 8 crore and some foreign currency from their possession in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district, an official said, as reported by the news agency PTI. Following a tip-off about the transportation of gold from Mumbai to Ratlam, a police team on Saturday intercepted the two persons moving on the two-wheeler in the Station Road area here, Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar Lodha said.


While checking their vehicle, the police found 13.245 kilograms of gold worth around Rs eight crore in a trolley bag and a backpack, besides a GPS tracker and some foreign currency notes including dollars, dirhams, and riyals, he said.


The value of the seized currency was not specified.


The two persons, aged 32 and 30, hailed from Rajasthan's Sikar district and Mahendragarh in Haryana. They were currently living in Ratlam, the official said, PTI reported. Both of them have been detained for questioning, he said, adding the other departments concerned have also been informed about the seizure.

Breaking News Live: Man Shoots Himself, Wife Consumes Poison In UP Village

In a double tragedy, a 35-year-old farmer, Vipin Kumar, shot himself dead in his house in Akbarpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, and his wife consumed poison on learning of the incident.She is admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.


Police said when Vipin Kumar shot himself on Saturday, his wife Sundari, his younger brother Arvind and father Rishipal were present in the house. The couple did not have any children. Vipin had a dispute over a piece of land with his younger brother Arvind, IANS reported citing sources.


Kamlesh Bahadur, SP-rural, Meerut, said, “Some neighbours told the police that Arvind wanted to grab the whole piece of land and his father was also supporting him. This was bothering Vipin and he took the extreme step. His wife heard the gunshot and she also consumed poison after finding her husband dead,” as quoted by IANS.

TDP To Hold Mass Hunger Strike Today To Protest Against 'Illegal' Arrest Of Chandrababu Naidu


The Telugu Desam Party has decided to observe a mass hunger strike across Andhra Pradesh on Sunday in protest against the illegal arrest of party supremo and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Andhra Pradesh TDP president K Atchannaidu, in a statement on Saturday, had requested the party cadres to participate in large numbers in all assembly constituency headquarters.


Naidu was arrested in connection with an alleged Rs 371 crore Skill Development scam in an early morning police operation on Saturday which involved officers knocking on the door of the caravan in which he was sleeping. The former CM was arrested by the CID around 6 AM from a marriage hall (outside which his caravan was parked) at Gnanapuram in Nandyala town, police said.


Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra To Address Public Meeting In Rajasthan's Tonk Today


All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a public meeting in Rajasthan's Tonk district on Sunday, September 10.

 


Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had visited the venue of the meeting on Friday evening and had said that 300 kitchens would be started simultaneously in the rural areas of the state under the Indira Rasoi Yojana on Sunday.

 

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Swarnim Chaturvedi said Gandhi will address the meeting on the premises of the Vivekananda Model School located in Jhilae village of the district.

 


The party's Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, state unit president Govind Singh Dotasra and Gehlot will also be present on the occasion.

 


A police official said that Priyanka Gandhi reached Ranthambore in Sawai Madhopur district with her family on Thursday night.
