Ailing Bengal Minister Subrata Mukherjee Dies, Mamata Extends Condolences

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee died after prolonged illness at a state-run hospital in Kolkata on Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. Mukherjee, who was the state panchayat minister, was 75.


The chief minister visited the SSKM Hospital and announced that he passed away late this evening.


"I still can't believe he is no longer with us. He was such a dedicated party leader. It is a personal loss for me," she said.

Just like every year, even this year PM Modi will celebrate Diwali with the border forces. This time PM Modi can go to celebrate Diwali with soldiers in the Nowshera sector of the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. In view of PM Modi's visit, alert jawans have been alerted near the Line of Control.


The PM has been following this tradition of celebrating Diwali with the jawans for a long time. 


PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi and others wished the country on the occasion of Diwali. 


Apart from that, the Centre extended a Diwali bonanza for citizens of the country by reducing excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 and on diesel by Rs 10, effective from November 4.


The petrol prices rose from rupees 81 in January 2021 to more than rupees 110 in October 2021 in New Delhi. This new decision would come as a relief for a lot of people in India. 


In other news, Grand Deepotsav celebrations have begun in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya with over 9.5 lakh earthen lamps being lit up on the bank of Saryu river as part of Diwali 2021. According to reports, Ayodhya has once again entered the Guinness Book of World Record with the lighting up of more than 9.5 lakh diyas.
