The Maharashtra government has directed that titles of the national civilian awards, such as Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan etc, should not be used as suffixes or prefixes by their recipients.
A circular issued by the state government's general administration department also restricted the use of the titles of national civilian honours while instituting awards.
“The national awards do not amount to titles within the meaning of Article 18 (1) and they should not be used as suffixes or prefixes. If this is done, the defaulter should forfeit the National Award conferred on him or her by following the procedure laid in Regulation 10 of each of the four notifications creating these National Awards,” the circular said citing the Supreme Court.
The circular further stated that authorities should ensure that the above directives of the Supreme Court are followed strictly without using the name of the awards at the beginning or at the end of the name of persons. (PTI)

Udaipur Violence: Tailor Murdered Over 'Insult To Islam', Curfew Imposed
Two men with a cleaver murdered a tailor here and posted videos online that said they are avenging an insult to Islam, triggering stray cases of violence in the Rajasthan city, a part of which was placed under curfew. Prohibitory orders banning people from assembling were clamped across the state for a month and mobile internet services suspended for the next 24 hours.
At 8 pm, curfew was declared till further orders in seven police station areas of Udaipur city. Two motorcycles were set ablaze in Hathipole area and a mob pelted stones at a mosque in Dhan Mandi, before it was dispersed by police.
SC To Hear Pleas On Extra Legal Demolitions
Supreme Court will hear today the pleas against "extra legal" demolition of buildings linked to the accused involved in violent protests in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur and Prayagraj over objectionable remarks made by now sacked two BJP functionaries on Prophet Mohammed.

MVA Crisis: Fadnavis Meets Guv, Wants Uddhav To Prove Majority
In a major political development late on Tuesday, a delegation of the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led by Devendra Fadnavis called on Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari with a plea to ascertain the majority of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
They have informed the Governor that the rebel group has withdrawn support to the government headed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Leader of Opposition Fadnavis told mediapersons. According to reports, BJP has submitted a letter to the Governor urging him to issue directions to the CM to prove his majority, added Fadnavis.

As Delhi NCR endured a torturous '40-feels-like 50' kind of temperature on Tuesday in wait of the illusive monsoon, an overcast sky in the afternoon raised hopes of showers but in vain, even as the IMD said the capital would witness rain starting from Wednesday evening.
"Delhi is likely to witness rain activity from June 29 evening, however, monsoon rainfall is likely to materialise between June 30 and July 1," senior India Meteorological Department (IMD) scientist R.K. Jenamani told news agency IANS.
