A report in the Washington Post quoted a source saying that US health officials are checking if Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine shot is related to higher heart inflammation risk in younger adults.

President Ram Nath Kovind undergoes cataract surgery at Army hospital in Delhi

President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday underwent a cataract surgery at the Army hospital here, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said.


The surgery was successful and he has been discharged from the hospital, it said.


Kovind, aged 75, took over as the 14th president of India on July 25, 2017.


"The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind underwent cataract surgery today morning (August 19, 2021) at the Army Hospital (Referral & Research), New Delhi. Surgery was successful and he has been discharged from the Hospital," the statement said. (PTI)

57.16 Crore COVID-19 vaccine doses administered across India so far

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 57.16 Crore (57,16,71,264) with more than 48 lakh (48,84,440) Vaccine Doses administered in last 24 hours. 26,66,831 vaccine doses were administered as first dose and 6,01,437 vaccine doses given as second dose in the age group 18-44 years today.


Cumulatively, 21,13,11,218 persons in the age group 18-44 years across 37 States/UTs have received their first dose and total 1,79,43,325 have received their second dose since the start of Phase-3 of the vaccination drive.

One unidentified terrorist killed during encounter in Awantipora

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Pampore area of ​​Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning. As per the early inputs, a terrorist has been killed by the security forces during the encounter. Jammu and Kashmir Police has informed that the security forces have currently cordoned off the entire area as the encounter is still going on. 


The security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Khrew in Pampore area of Awantipora following information about presence of militants there, the officials said.


They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the ultras opened fire towards security forces' positions, which was retaliated. There were no casualties reported so far in the operation on either side, the officials said. The police haven't revealed the identity of the terrorist killed and which terrorist group he was associated with
