SC To Hear Plea On Jahangirpuri Demolition On Thursday
The Supreme Court on Wednesday stalled the anti-encroachment drive by authorities in the violence-hit Jahangirpuri area in Delhi. The apex court is scheduled to take up the matter for hearing on Thursday again.
The SC had ordered maintaining of status quo concerning the demolition of buildings in Jahangirpuri in north Delhi that had witnessed violent clashes, including stone-pelting, arson, and firing, between two communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday.
Bulldozers started razing shops and other structures in the violence-hit area creating havoc-like situation in the national capital.
While the BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation termed the anti-encroachment drive a routine exercise, Opposition alleged that it was a demolition of India's constitutional values which targeted the poor and minorities.
UK PM Boris Johnson Visit India On Thursday
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will arrive in Ahmedabad on Thursday in his maiden two-day visit to India. According to reports, Johnson's talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on the situation in the Indo-Pacific as the United Kingdom is strongly opposed to any kind of coercion in the region.
Britain PM's visit to India is also aimed at ramping up the overall ties between the two countries, especially in the areas of defence and security and trade and as reported earlier, he will not lecture India on how to respond to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, people familiar with the development told news agency PTI.
The British prime minister is scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. After a series of engagements in Gujarat throughout the day, he will leave for Delhi in the evening. Johnson and Modi will hold extensive talks in Delhi on Friday.
Cloudy Weather, Gusty Winds Likely In Delhi On Thursday
A heatwave scorched parts of Delhi on Wednesday, while cloudy weather and gusty winds are predicted to bring the mercury down by a few notches on Thursday.
The MeT Office has predicted a drizzle and thunderstorm over the capital on Thursday with winds gusting up to 40 kilometers per hour. The heatwave conditions may abate but the maximum temperature will remain above normal. The mercury will rise again to 42 degrees Celsius by next week, an official said.
The maximum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory - the capital's base station - settled at 41.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday as against 42.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Multi-Layered Security At Red Fort For PM Event On Thursday
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the 400th Parkash Purab celebrations of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji on Thursday at Red Fort, Delhi. PM will address the gathering and also release a commemorative coin and postage stamp on the occasion, the Prime Minister's Office said.
A multi-layered security ring, comprising over 1,000 Delhi Police personnel and forces from various agencies, will be put in place at the Red Fort from where PM Modi will address the nation.
More than 100 CCTV cameras have already been installed inside the Red Fort premises, including the spot from where the PM Modi will address the nation.
