Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir later this month, his first trip to the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370, a senior BJP functionary said on Monday.
He will address a conference of local body representatives in Samba on National Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, Jammu and Kashmir BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Kaul said while addressing a function of Kashmiri Pandits here.
Kaul said efforts are being made for a meeting between the prime minister and representatives of the Kashmiri Pandit community so that they can raise their concerns with him.
In August 2019, the Centre abrogated Jammu and Kashmir's special status under Article 370 of the Constitution, and bifurcated it into union territories. (PTI)

Petrol and diesel prices were on Monday hiked by 40 paise a litre each, taking the total increase in rates in the last two weeks to Rs 8.40 per litre.
Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 103.81 per litre as against Rs 103.41 previously, while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 94.67 per litre to Rs 95.07, according to a price notification of state fuel retailers.
Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state, depending upon the incidence of local taxation.
This is the 12th increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22.
In all, petrol prices have gone up by Rs 8.40 per litre.

Political Crisis In Pakistan
Much tumult ensued in the political landscape of Pakistan on Sunday. As the voting was scheduled for the no-confidence motion, tabled by the Opposition, against the Imran Khan-led government on Sunday, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri dismissed the motion saying that it contradicts Article 5 of the constitution.
Following the dismissal, Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the media and said that he had advised President Arif Alvi to dissolve the Assembly which the latter did. After the dissolution of the Assembly, the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter and the hearing was adjourned till Sunday. The hearing is expected to resume today.
Economic Crisis In Sri Lanka
Amid an unprecedented economic crisis in the island nation of Sri Lanka, the country's Prime Minister's Office refuted reports of resignation by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. "Prime Minister's Office categorically denies rumours now in circulation to the effect that the Prime Minister is going to resign," read the Sri Lanka PMO's statement.
The statement also said arrangements are being discussed to address the issues related to fuel supply, electricity and cooking gas shortage.

Covid-19 Cases In India
On Sunday, India reported 1,096 new cases of Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours. During the same time 1,447 cases were reported recovered and 81 casualties. Active cases remained below 13,000 mark while India's infection tally rose to 4,30,28,131.
Total recoveries were at 4,24,93,773, while the death toll climbed to 5,21,345 as per the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Meanwhile, the vaccination tally reached 184.66 crores under the Nationwide Vaccination drive for Covid-19.
