New Delhi: India and Japan, on Saturday, discussed the growing aggression of China in the region as Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida makes his maiden visit to India. Situation in Ladakh and talks on border related issues with China was also briefed by India to Japan, reported news agency ANI. 


“Both the PMs discussed China, we informed Japan of the situation in Ladakh, the attempts of amassing the troops and our talks with China on border-related issues. The Japanese PM also briefed us on his own perspective vis-a-vis the East & South China sea,” said Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla. 






The Foreign Secretary further said that they stressed that the relationship with China could not be considered to be business as usual unless there is a resolution of the border issue with peace and tranquillity. 


“We made it clear that unless we have a resolution of the border issues with peace & tranquillity, we could not consider the relationship (with China) to be business as usual; normalcy would depend on the progress in issues we're discussing,” he added.

Both the countries also discussed the ongoing situation in Ukraine and “expressed the seriousness about the ongoing conflict & humanitarian crisis and assessed broader implications for Indo-Pacific.” 


“PM Modi & Japanese PM Kishida emphasised on the importance of the safety & security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine. They reiterated their call for an immediate cessation of violence & noted that there was no other path than dialogue for resolving the Ukraine crisis,” informed the Foreign Secretary. 


Apart from this, the two sides concluded three agreements — a memorandum of cooperation on cyber security, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of sustainable development and  a memorandum of cooperation on wastewater management, Shringla said.

“On the bilateral side, PM Modi and Japanese PM Kishida discussed the entire range of areas including economic cooperation, digital cooperation, cooperation for the development of the NorthEast region of India, skill development etc,” said Shringla
