New Delhi: Raids are being carried out across the country by the Income Tax Department in the wake of the burgeoning fake currency racket post demonetisation.


Here is a list of seizures made in the last 24 to 48 hours.

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

Rs 35.30 lakh was seized from a truck carrying peanuts by the Jodhpur police.

The cash seized included currency notes of Rs 2000 worth Rs 24 lakh.

The truck driver and his companion have been arrested by the police.

New Delhi

Old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 worth Rs 31 lakhs were seized from a person at New Delhi Railway station.

The information was given out by the Income Tax department. Investigations are underway.

Sitarganj, Uttarakhand

New currency worth Rs 9 lakh, including 450 notes of Rs 2000, recovered from a car in Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand.

The cash was seized from a Swift Dzire during regular checking by the police.

Mahendra, a businessman by profession, couldn't properly justify the reason behind the huge amount of cash found in his car.

Haridwar, Uttarakhand

People have been trying to find all kinds of ways to hide their black money from IT and Rd sleuths ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a sudden address to the nation, announced the decision to demonetise old high denomination currency notes.

The desperation to hide the black money was clearly seen in Haridwar where a man was arrested for trying to throw Rs 3.75 lakh in the Ganga river.

Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh

Two persons were arrested after over Rs.20 lakh in new notes were recovered from them on the Moradabad road here.

Police intercepted a car and found currency notes packed in two bags in Chandausi area here last night, SDM Amit Kumar said on Thursday.

The duo identified as Vishnu Srivastav and Ranjit Kumar were taken to a police station where the Income Tax department team opened the bags which were found to be carrying Rs 16 lakh in Rs 2000 notes and remaining cash in the denomination of Rs.100, Rs.50 and Rs.10.

They said the cash belonged to one Anshul Kumar of Moradabad, the SDM said, adding investigations were on.

Tura, Meghalaya

Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday seized Rs 29 lakh new currency notes from two persons in the Garo hills region post demonetisation move by the Centre.

The duo was headed to Gasuapara in South Garo hills from Assam with the notes, a BSF official said.

Both the accused are residents o Mankachar in South Salmara district of Assam and were taking the money to a coal exporter, he said.

The seized money had a large number of notes in Rs 2000 denomination along with new Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes, the official said adding their mobile phones along with the vehicle they were travelling in has also been seized.

Acting on a tip off, an operation was launched and the duo were held.

The amount of money seized was first of it's kind in the region, the official added.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Continuing its crackdown on black money post demonetisation, the Income Tax department on Wednesday searched 11 locations linked to Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, including his official chamber and residence, besides those of his son, and claimed to have seized Rs 30 lakh in new currency and five kg gold.

Punjab

Two people with fake currency notes were arrested in Punjab.

Pakistan

Also, it is being suspected that fake currency notes were brought into the country from Pakistan.

According to IT sources, yesterday, undisclosed income of Rs 115 crore was detected by the IT department which issued 200 notices for verification of suspicious high value cash deposits.

IT Deparment had taken intrusive action against 57 individuals yesterday.These include surveys,searches under various provisions of IT act.

These actions led to seizure of valuables (cash&jewellery ) of Rs 72 crore. Out of which, Rs 6 crores was in new currency notes.
