New Delhi: A senior Bharatiya Janta Party delegation is set to visit law commission over the issue of ‘one nation, one election’. The party is in favour of conducting the Assembly polls and Lok Sabha polls together. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Bhupendra Yadav and Anil Balooni would be a party of the delegation.
On the other hand, many opposition parties are opposing the move. Last week the law commission had sought a suggestion from various parties over the same. These parties included Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC, AIADMK, Left and Goa forward party.
Congress is yet to give a formal statement over the issue. The Samajawadi Party on the other hand said that if BJP wants Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections together, then the same should be implemented by 2019 Lok Sabha polls itself.
TMC has shown complete opposition towards the same saying the “structure of constitution cannot be changed. We are against the idea of conducting the elections together. This should not be done”.
The Election Commission has said that they are capable of conducting the polls together provided logistics and legal framework is in place.
