Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has once again urged the opposition parties, including the Congress to join hands in defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at a function in the state capital Patna on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the Congress should not rest on its laurels and make use of the momentum gained during Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' in stitching up a coalition.
"Congress must not rest on its laurels and make use of momentum gained during Rahul Gandhi’s 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' in forging coalition of parties opposed to BJP, said Kumar at 11th General Convention of CPI-M in Patna, reported PTI.
He also said that BJP will not win more than 100 seats in the general elections if the opposition parties heed to his suggestions and fight together.
"I want you people (Congress) to take a quick decision. If they take my suggestion and fight together, they (BJP) will go below 100 seats, but if they don't take my suggestion, you know what will happen, the CM was quoted by ANI as saying.
While speaking at the occasion Kumar, the longest serving CM of the state, now 71 years old, again reiterated that he had no ambitions of becoming the Prime Minister and that the Lok Sabha polls were an opportunity for ‘in logon se mukti’ (liberation from these people).
Tejashwi Yadav Hits Out At BJP
Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also spoke at the event and accused the BJP of threatening people with raids and imprisonment if they speak against the party.
"Today the atmosphere & situation of the country is such that if you speak against BJP you will be raided, character assassinated or sent to jail & if you stay with BJP you will be called 'Harishchandra', said Yadav, according to ANI.
The occasion was an "All India Congress" organized by CPI(ML) Liberation, which supports the 'Mahagathbandhan' government in the state from outside.
