New Delhi: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance sweeping the Guwahati Municipal Corporation election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked the people of this “lovely city” for having given a “resounding mandate” to the saffron party’s Assam unit “to build on the agenda of development”.
“Thank you Guwahati! The people of this lovely city have given a resounding mandate to @BJP4Assam to build on the agenda of development. They have also blessed the hardwork of the state government under CM @himantabiswa. My gratitude to every BJP Karyakarta for the hardwork,” he tweeted.
BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda also expressed his gratitude to the people of Guwahati for the immense faith in his party’s vision.
“My gratitude to the people of Guwahati for the immense faith in our party's vision. This win is another testament to the undying faith of the people in the able leadership of PM @narendramodi ji. Many congratulations to CM @himantabiswa and to every karyakarta of @bjp4assam,” he tweeted.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma too expressed his delight with this “historic win”.
“I bow my head to the people of Guwahati for giving @BJP4Assam & its allies a historic win in #GMCElections. With this massive mandate, people have reaffirmed their faith on our development journey under the guidance of Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji. @JPNadda @BJP4India,” he tweeted.
Out of 57 wards, the BJP has won 43 wards while its ally the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) bagged five wards.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Assam Jaitya Parishad (AJP) have won one ward each so far.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation election was held after a gap of nine years.
