New Delhi: Hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the electricity consumers can opt out of the subsidy scheme from Oct 1, the Delhi BJP alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is looking for ways to end the power subsidy. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari slammed the Delhi CM saying he is trying to ‘forget’ his promise owing to the ‘dilapidated’ economy of the national capital.

According to a report by news agency PTI, Delhi Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri accused the Delhi government of going back on its commitments.

“Aam Aadmi Party came to power by promising free electricity and water. Now it is looking for excuses to end the electricity subsidy. Getting electricity subsidy on demand means that now consumers will hit the electricity offices and waste their time,” PTI quoted the leader as saying.

The spokesperson of Delhi BJP, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, said that the Kejriwal model of free water and electricity is ‘collapsing’ as the economic condition of the Delhi government is ‘crippling’.

Earlier in the day, while announcing the decision of the Delhi Cabinet on giving the consumers an option to leave the electricity subsidy if so desired by them, Kejriwal had said that it has been suggested to his government that the amount saved on paying the power subsidy could be used on developing schools and hospitals in the national capital.

The AAP hasn’t commented on the BJP’s allegations yet.

It is to be noted that the AAP had won the elections in Punjab on the promise of providing free electricity if voted to power but this decision has been postponed till July 1, Bidhuri added.
