New Delhi: In response to comments made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the elections in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party lodged a complaint with the Election Commission. The BJP accused the Congress of being desperate because it is unable to find candidates for elections.
On BJP delegation's meeting with EC, BJP leader Tarun Chugh said, "Today we have complained to Election Commission about the way Rahul Gandhi is constantly conspiring to make the country fight in the name of language and province...This time Congress has hatched a conspiracy to make the country fight by creating a rift between North and South"
"In his speeches, he has made every effort to make North and South fight... The country is progressing but Rahul Gandhi is talking about dividing the country into pieces... We have complained about this in writing and demanded strict action... BJP respects all languages", he added.
The Congress has taken issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent statement alleging that the Congress manifesto promises wealth redistribution, including the surveying and redistribution of individuals' property and gold, should the party come to power. The Congress approached the EC, seeking action over what they perceive as a misrepresentation of their manifesto.
Earlier, PM Modi said, "Congress promises that if they come to power, "everyone's property will be surveyed, it will calculate gold belonging to mothers and sisters and then redistribute it. They won't even spare your mangalsutra".
PM's Remarks Are Far Worse: Congress
The Congress has strongly condemned PM Modi's remarks, labeling them as "divisive" and told the Commission that his remarks were "far worse than any ever made by a sitting Prime Minister in the history of India".
In a formal communication to the EC, the Congress said that such statements cannot go unchecked, unanswered, or unpunished. Additionally, the party criticised the Election Commission's perceived inaction in penalising PM Modi and the BJP for repeatedly invoking religious sentiments, alleging blatant violations of electoral laws.
