Amid the ongoing political slugfest in the national capital over involvement of Delhi government in the alleged liquor scam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday sprinkled "ganga jal" on Rajghat after several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs visited the memorial earlier in the day. The saffron party even slammed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by comparing AAP convenor as Joseph Goebbels. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also accused Kejriwal and his party of lying repeatedly.

The Delhi Unit of BJP said that by visiting Rajghat, AAP supremo Kejriwal has desecrated Mahatma Gandhi's memorial and thus workers of the saffron party sprinkled "ganga jal" there to 'purify' it.

Kejriwal visited Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat along with Aam Aadmi Party MLAs to pray for the country, asserting that the AAP government is stable as his party legislators are not for sale.

"This is a total flop show of the AAP. Kejriwal ji you have to speak on the excise policy but your silence on this issue says a lot. You always come up with the same old, worn-out movie script to divert public attention. Arvind, you have become a descendant of Goebbels, who used to think that if you keep telling the public a lie, they will start believing it as a truth," news agency PTI quoted Tiwari as saying.

The former BJP Delhi unit chief said that those indulged in the "liquor scam" visited the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. "Are these descendants of Goebbels even worthy of visiting the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi?" Tiwari asked.

Joseph Goebbels was a German Nazi politician who was the chief propaganda minister in in Adolf Hitler's government from 1933 to 1945.

"You (Kejriwal) are busy in diverting the issue after gobbling up the public money. You should answer that why your excise policy was taken back as soon as the CBI enquiry was ordered?" Tiwari asked further.

Even Parvesh Sahib Singh, BJP MP from West Delhi fired salvo at AAP and said that party is indulging in 'theatrics' instead of coming clean on allegations of "scam" in the excise policy. "Arvind Kejriwal, who is hand-in-glove with the liquor mafia, desecrated the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, who used to speak against liquor. Our party workers will sprinkle Ganga water to purify the place," Singh said.

A high-octane political drama unfolded in the capital city today after Kejriwal accused the BJP of trying to topple his government by offering Rs 800 crore to 40 of his legislators for switching sides.

Several AAP leaders claimed that nearly a dozen party MLAs were incommunicado ahead of the meeting at the Chief Minister's residence. However, after a head count exercise later in the day, the party they said all its 62 MLAs were accounted for.
