NEW DELHI: In an act that should serve as an example for others to follow, a BJP legislature from Uttar Pradesh helped save members of a Muslim family who were injured in a deadly road accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway.

Vipin Kumar David, MLA from Etah’s Sadar Constituency was on his way to Lucknow from Agra when he saw a car that turned turtle on the highway after an accident. Spotting the horrific scene and people severely injured in the mishap, David spent more than three hours to lend the family a helping hand.

He skipped his appointments and meeting and escorted them in an ambulance to Lucknow KGMU trauma centre, TOI said in its report.

The incident took place on Monday near Aliyarpur Pilkhana village of Unnao district when a car rammed in a divider and turned upside down. Among five of those travelling, a lady identified as Rukhsana died on the spot while other four sustained severe injuries.

Speaking to TOI, MLA Vipin Kumar David said, "For me they were just humans. It does not matter to me whether they were Muslims or Hindus. As a human being, it was my duty to save their lives and that's what I did and everyone should do in such situations."

The MLA was shocked at people's response after the accident who were busy in dialing emergency numbers but didn't come to help the injured. He said he, along with his guard and driver, gave them water and covered wounds with a pieces of clothes.

"We took the injured in an ambulance, in a dial 100 PRV (Police Response Vehicle) and in another vehicle, an escorted them Lucknow's KGMU trauma centre," David told TOI.
