New Delhi: Expressing her regret on the controversial statement made by Sadhna Singh on BSP chief Mayawati, the BJP MLA on Sunday said that she had no intentions of disrespecting anyone, however, it was just to remind the BSP supremo about 1995 Guest House Scandal where BJP stepped in for Mayawati's help. "I had no intentions of disrespecting anyone, I express regret if someone was hurt by my words," she said.

Uttar Pradesh MLA Sadhana Singh while addressing a gathering on Saturday, said that a woman who underwent a 'chirharan' (disrobe) is now compromising with the perpetrators. "Mayawati neither looks like a man nor a woman... She is worse than a eunuch", she has said. The statement has sparked outrage among BSP leaders who said that BJP leaders have stooped to a new low. Akhilesh Yadav too criticised Singh for her offensive comment and said it reflected the ethical bankruptcy of the party.

What happened in 1995?

In the year 1995, the BSP announced its withdrawal from the coalition with SP which resulted in chaos, as per the report by the Quint. The incident is considered one of the biggest deal-breakers between Mayawati and Mulayam. On 2 June 1995, a combined anger of SP workers marched into the Meerabai Guest House in Lucknow, where Mayawati was in a meeting with her MLAs.

According to reports, her room was vandalised, casteist and sexual slurs were thrown about, and she was beaten up. The BSP MLAs present in the room failed to protect her, reported the Quint. Eventually, BJP MLA Brahm Dutt Dwivedi stepped into the room and escorted Mayawati to safety.
