BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who was previously associated with the Congress party, is the latest name to be added to the list of political leaders infected by the novel coronavirus. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday afternoon and is admitted to Lucknow's PGI Hospital. As per  information received, the Prayagraj MP complained of a sore throat, after which she underwent the test.


She took to Twitter to inform about her health. "On suspecting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I took the test for it and was reported to be positive. I am hospitalized on the advice of doctors."

"I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last 24 hours, please isolate yourself and get yourself checked," she added.

Bahuguna is 71 years old.


Several political leaders have been infected by the novel virus ever since its outbreak in March.

It is to be noted that India on Thursday reported worst ever spike in its Covid-19 cases in a span of 24 hours with 83,883 corona positive cases . The country's overall tally has mounted to 38,53,406, while the death toll climbed to 67,376 as 1,043 people succumbed to the disease in a single day, according to the data provided by the Health Ministry.
