Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty, one of the star campaigners and crowd pullers for the BJP during the West Bengal 2021 assembly elections, visited state BJP headquarters on Monday fuelling speculations of him being elevated within the party. Despite his recent absence from active politics BJP plans to send the actor to Rajya Sabha, as per a Zee News report.

Mithun, who joined BJP in March 2021, can get the Upper House nod from BJP as Rajya Sabha terms of Roopa Ganguly and Swapan Dasgupta from West Bengal ended recently. With the vice-presidential election approaching, BJP would like to replace the two Rajya Sabha vacancies.

Mithun Chakraborty arrived in Kolkata on Monday, visited the state office and met BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar. Rahul Sinha and Rudranil Ghosh were other BJP leaders present during Mithun Chakraborty's visit to the party's state headquarters.

"I will continue to do the work that the party has assigned me," Mithun said without divulging any further information. This is his first visit to the BJP state headquarters since his induction to the party in March 2021.

"I could not come so long because of my ill health. Let politics be in place of politics. But the news that I have received is very sad that there has been unrest after the votes," he said on post-poll violence in West Bengal, Zee News reported.

'Disco Dancer' was the talk of the town as his poll pitches and slogans matched the wit and fire of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee during the heated campaigning of West Bengal assembly polls.
