Assam: In a bizarre incident, a mouse supposedly destroyed Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 currency notes worth 12 lakhs in an ATM located in Tinsukia.

The incident took place in an ATM owned by State Bank of India which was reportedly out or service since May 20. It was opened on June 11 for maintenance and the engineer found damaged notes and a dead mouse.

On May 19, FIS Global Business Solutions, a private security firm, deposited 29.48 lakhs in denominations of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000. The machine stopped functioning and got out of service from the very next day. Since the ATM was not working, an engineer from Kolkata was called to look into it.

The officials however discovered notes that were completely intact amounting to nearly 17 lakhs, preventing them from incurring a complete loss.

The SBI has lodged a complaint at the Hijuguri Police Station.
