Kolkata: West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari, along with several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Saturday held a 'padyatra' (foot-march) in the violence-hit Birbhum district days after 10 houses were set ablaze in a village, killing at least eight people, including women and children.
During his protest against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, Adhikari also said that he will be doing a sit-in protest in the district for 48 hours, demanding the resignation of State Home Minister.
"The arrest of murderers won't do, conspirators must be arrested too," news agency ANI quoted Adhikari as saying.
Earlier in the day, Adhikari along with other BJP leaders staged a protest in front of the SDO office of Rampurhat over the recent violence in Birbhum.
Even Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury held a protest march called 'Nyay Yatra' over the violence earlier today. While hitting out at Bengal CM, Chowdhury said that Banerjee promised to take all guilty into custody within 15 days, 42 days have passed and she has shown no interest.
Meanwhile, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reached Bogtui village in Birbhum district on Saturday and started its investigation into the violence. A team of forensic experts led by CBI reached Rampurhat in West Bengal's Birbhum district to collect samples following the order of the Calcutta High Court.
The police have lodged a case in this regard, and also claimed to have arrested 10 people in this connection. The BJP and others have accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of sheltering the accused.

Bhadu Sheikh, a Trinamool Congress leader and local deputy president of Rampurhat village was killed in an incident that triggered the violence. His supporters had allegedly gathered and set as many as ten houses on fire. Many houses in the area were also ransacked.
