New Delhi: The forensic team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inspected the epicentre of arson and violence in Bagtui village of Birbhum district for the second day.


They collected samples of charred debris from the spot for further investigation on Sunday, news agency ANI reported.


According to news agency PTI, the CBI sleuths probing the Birbhum killings in West Bengal will also visit a hospital to interact with those who were injured in the violence.






"We will talk to a woman and three others, who were injured in the violence and are now undergoing treatment in a hospital, to get their version. We will also interact with local people in Bogtui village. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory personnel will continue their examinations," a CBI official told PTI.


He informed a list of the villagers has been prepared so that officials can interact with them. "We have requested the administration to find out those who fled the village," the CBI official added.


Unidentified people had on March 21 set ablaze 10 houses in the village near Rampurhat town, killing at least eight people, including women and children.

CBI Named 21 People As Accused In Birbhum Case: Report


As per the CBI official cited by PTI, the sleuths of the central agency will also interact with fire brigade officials to ascertain what had transpired on the dreadful night.

The CBI team, that reached Rampurhat late on Friday night, started the probe early on Saturday morning under the leadership of a DIG-rank officer.


According to a report by NDTV, the CBI has named 21 people as accused in the Birbhum case. The list of accused is the same as that of the state police, it reported sources as saying.

The Calcutta High Court had on Friday handed over the probe into the Birbhum killings to the central agency and set a deadline of April 7 to submit its progress report.
