A boat carrying 14 people capsized in Maner, Patna district, missing seven people. According to the assistant of sub-inspector (ASI) Satya Narayan Singh, Maner, the NDRF team is involved in a search and rescue operation. The other seven people are safe, news agency ANI reported.

According to a report by The Indian Express, a 32-year-old revenue and circle officer went missing earlier in October of this year after his boat capsized on the Brahmaputra river while he was on an inspection visit to Assam's Dhubri district. Disaster rescue workers later found his body.


In the same month, a Bihar constable, part of a police team that was tracking liquor smugglers, died when a boat capsized in the Gopalganj district of Bihar. The other four members of the police team were able to swim to safety, The Hindustan Times reported citing official sources.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) study on Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India-2021, at least 79 persons perished in boat capsize incidents in the state in 2021, the highest in the country, making water travel appear risky.

Odisha was followed by 47 deaths in Bihar and 26 in Uttar Pradesh. In 2020, Odisha was in third position reporting 58 deaths due to boat capsizes with UP on top with 69 and Bihar at second with 65 casualties.
