New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the polls to 24 seats of the legislative council in Bihar will be held on April 4.
The candidates can file their nominations by March 16 and withdraw their candidature till March 23.
The votes will be counted on April 7.
In Bihar’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting on the 12 seats of Rohtas, Aurangabad, Saran, Siwan, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Kisanganj, Katihar, Saharsa, Gopalganj, Begusarai and Samastipur.

The Janata Dal (United) will contest on the 11 seats of Patna, Bhojpur, Gaya, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Bhagalpur, Munger, Nawada and Madhubani, while the Rashtriya Lok Janashakti Party (RLJP) will contest from the Vaishali seat.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had earlier announced 20 candidates for the Bihar legislative council polls while allotting a seat to the Communist Party of India.
There was, however, no clarity as to whether the RJD would offer the remaining three seats to the Congress, which is believed to be planning to contest all 24 seats alone.
Earlier in 2016, the Congress party had contested four seats out of the 24 seats.
The grand old party had, however, emerged victorious in only one seat.
