Bihar Assembly Polls:  Just a day ahead of the voting for the crucial Bihar assembly elections, law and order situation was seen going for a toss in Munger, which is set to go for polls on Wednesday in the first phase.

One person was killed and as many as 24 people including 17 policemen have been injured in violence between police and a group of people in Munger during the Durga Puja idol immersion. The injured people were admitted to Sadar hospital and other private hospitals for treatment.

As per reports, some people from the crowd at the immersion ceremony opened fire as a commotion broke out at the event in which one person was killed and several others were injured. As many as 100 people were detained by the police after several rounds were fired by some anti-social elements during the idol immersion event in Munger. Police also recovered 12 empty cartridges from the spot and three country-made pistols.

However, if eye-witnesses are to be believed, the crowd had gathered for idol immersion, meanwhile, some police officials started putting pressure on the people waiting for their turn near Pandit Deen Dayal Chowk. This caused a ruckus between the people of the statue immersion committee and the police and the police had to open fire. The police have denied opening fire.

Voting for Bihar assembly elections will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7 in one of the biggest elections globally during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by counting of votes on November 10.
