Terming the results as largely on the expected lines, the Sena on Wednesday said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) has nevertheless received a major setback at the hustings.
After managing to grab just one seat in the high-stake assembly elections, LJP leader Chirag Paswan said, “There will never be my support for Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi. If he continues to become the Chief Minister of my state, there will not be my support at the state level...We will continue supporting PM Modi at the centre.”
A key meeting of JDU leaders will be held today at Nitish Kumar’s residence. Deliberations over government formation strategy will be done at the meeting. The AIMIM, the BSP and Independent candidates set for a win will have extra value amid the extremely tight situation in Bihar as the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan are neck to neck in getting to a simple majority.
Even as the NDA is ahead of the Mahagathbandhan, it is barely at the half-way mark of 122 in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
In this case, the role of Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM which has won one seat and is leading on four more, the Bahujan Samaj Party which is leading on one seat and two Independent candidates may play a crucial role.
Showcasing their influence, several "muscle men" from various parties, including jailed Anant Singh, who are contesting the Bihar Assembly elections, as well as their wives and sons fielded in their place, were leading in their respective constituencies in Tuesday's vote count.
Contesting from Patna's Mokama as a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate, Anant Singh, a friend-turned-foe of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was leading by over 30,000 votes against his rival Rajeev Lochan Narayan Singh of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U).

"I heard BJP leaders saying in unison (on TV) that only Nitish babu will be the chief minister. Nitish babu should thank Shiv Sena for that. Not keeping promises will not happen in Bihar because the Shiv Sena has shown in Maharashtra what can happen if word is not kept," Sanjay Raut said.

Counting of votes for the Bihar assembly elections will take longer than usual and continue till late in the night because of 63 per cent increase in the number of EVMs, the Election Commission said on Tuesday asserting that the pace of counting of votes is not slow.

The Plurals Party’s Pushpam Priya, who got even less votes than NOTA option , has also made similar allegations on the BJP. She has alleged that all the votes of Plurals were transferred to NDA.
However, in a rather surprising statement Karti Chidambaram has said, “ Whatever be the outcome of any election, it's time to stop blaming the EVM. In my experience, the EVM system is robust, accurate and dependable.”
With every passing minute, JDU and BJP supporters are making claims of being confident of forming a new government in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.
Sanjay Singh, spokesperson of the JDU said: "We are a disciplined party that works well under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. He has taken Bihar on the path of progress. We knew that the results will come in our favour and the trend so far has been according to our expectations."

Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party has outperformed the Janta Dal United in Bihar assembly polls as per the trends so far, the sources inside the party have confirmed that Nitish Kumar will only be the Chief Minister of the state if NDA comes to power again.
Battling strong anti-incumbency forces, Nitish Kumar’s party saw itself shrinking in seat tally as well as vote share in the initial trends, even as its alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party pitched itself as the largest party. So far around 25% of votes have been counted and NDA has taken lead at 132 seats. Within NDA, BJP has emerged strong on 76 seats, while JDU has its lead on 52 seats, signifying that the influence of Nitish Kumar is diminishing. "In some Assembly Constituencies (ACs) there are fewer polling stations, counting will conclude in 24-25 rounds. But we also have some ACs, where there will be 50-51 rounds. On average, we'll have 30-35 rounds of counting per AC," he added.
Within the NDA, Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the largest party with 72 seats in its tally after the first 5 hours of counting. JDU has shrunk to 50 seats.
As the BJP is emerging as the single-largest party in the state but the Congress is not able to repeat its 2015 performance of 27 seats and the Mahagathbandhan is behind the NDA.
As the Congress seems in a difficult position in the Bihar assembly elections, failing to hold grounds in the state, party leader Dr Udit Raj has once again raked the EVM issue. “When the direction of the devices going towards Mars and moon can be controlled from the Earth then why can't the EVMs be hacked?' he has said in a tweet in Hindi.
Congress leaders feel that though the party contested on 70 seats but they were tough contests as on these seats the BJP had a strong presence. The RJD conceded those seats which were either urban seats or were strong BJP bastions.
Today’s counting will also decide the political fate of nearly a dozen of ministers.
Prominent among them are Nand Kishore Yadav (Patna Sahib), Pramod Kumar (Motihari), Rana Randhir (Madhuban), Suresh Sharma (Muzaffarpur), Shrawan Kumar (Nalanda), Jai Kumar Singh (Dinara) and Krishnanandan Prasad Verma (Jehanabad).
As the trends are coming in from polling centres, the BJP is emerging as the single-largest party in the state but the Congress is not able to repeat its 2015 performance of 27 seats and the Mahagathbandhan is behind the NDA.
Congress leaders say while it's early to comment on the outcome of counting trends but the BJP is more comfortable on seats fought by the Congress. Also, the RJD despite being popular, could not get the popular votes as per trends till 12 noon.
Congress leaders feel that though the party contested on 70 seats but they were tough contests as on these seats the BJP had a strong presence. The RJD conceded those seats which were either urban seats or were strong BJP bastions.

Exuberant over the results of exit polls, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav on Monday said that he has given the CM's chair as a birthday gift to Tejashwi Yadav.
Tejashwi turned 31 years old on Monday and his birthday is being celebrated by supporters of the RJD across the state.
"The people of Bihar have said no to Nitish Kumar in this election. They have supported us due to the JD(U) government's inability to address issues like unemployment in state. Besides, his government is also involved in corruptions and scam," alleged Tej Pratap.
With many Bihar exit polls predicting victory for the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Grand Alliance, if Tejashwi Yadav wins big in the Bihar Assembly polls on Tuesday, then he will be the second leader to join the elite league of a third Chief Minister from a political family.
