Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allotted time to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to discuss the caste census. Nitish Kumar has been asked to meet on August 23. The question arises as to who can accompany the Bihar CM in the meeting.

Notably, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet him in the same matter.

After meeting Governor Fagu Chauhan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that it has been decided to meet PM Modi next Monday, that is August 23 at 11 am and some BJP members will also accompany him to discuss the caste-based census.

"I had sought an appointment with the PM to meet him along with a delegation from Bihar to conduct the caste-based census. I thank him for giving us time on August 23," said Kumar's tweet translated from Hindi.

Kumar's party Janata Dal (United) is an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar and is in favour of caste-based census.

Tejashwi Yadav is likely to be a part of the meeting

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the information was received from the Prime Minister's Office regarding this on Wednesday night. Reports also suggest RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will be a part of this meeting and people from other parties will also be there. Tejashwi Yadav had also demanded a caste census.

BJP allies such as the JD-U, Apna Dal, and Republican Party of India-Athawale have raised the demand for holding a caste-based census. Many opposition parties such as the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party are also demanding that the exercise should be held.
