Amid the Coronavirus lockdown in India, police have been playing a proactive role in ensuring that the measures of lockdown are properly implemented. But during these times of Covid-19, fake news and hate speech have also spread as an unwanted menace.
Ajit Singh, BJP leader from Bihar and Railway Board member, was arrested by the police for writing an objectionable post regarding Coronavirus and the Jamaat congregation.
For the uninitiated, Tablighi Jamaat, a religious congregation held mid-March in Delhi's Nizamuddin area has significantly contributed to the spike in coronavirus (covid-19) cases in India. The congregation has been in the news and sparked controversy as attendees who traveled to different parts of the country have been put in quarantine to contain the Covid-19 spread. The event has received a lot of flak for the same.
However, Ajit Singh's post did not go down well with the authorities and as an exemplary measure, he was arrested.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, Vaishali Police has arrested 4 people and sent them to jail for making objectionable comments on social media.
