New Delhi:In a major rail mishap in Chhapra-Ballia rail division, 14 bogies of Surat-bound Tapti-Ganga Express got derailed on Sunday morning. As per initial reports, six passengers have been injured in the accident. All the six passengers, who received minor injuries, were discharged after being administered first aid.
The reports came in at around 10:30 am in the morning. The train had departed from Chhapra Junction at around 9 am, as per reports.
The derailment occurred near Chhapra’s Gautamsthan station. Seniors railway officials have reached the spot. Relief operations have been started at the site of accident.
The accident took place near Gautam Asthan railway station in Varanasi division at 9.45 am, minutes after the Surat-bound train left Chapra Junction, Sanjay Yadav, chief public relations officer (CPRO) of North Eastern Railway said.
No casualty has been reported so far, the CPRO told PTI over phone, adding that the injured had been admitted to a local hospital.
The accident spot is 10 km away from Chapra town, he said.
"The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained and we are waiting for more details," Yadav said, adding that it will be clear only after an investigation is conducted.
The main line (up line) has been blocked because of the accident, the CPRO said.
Rescue operations are underway, some officials said.
The train runs between Surat of Gujarat and Chhapra Junction of Bihar. It is named for the Tapti River in Surat and the Ganga River in Chhapra.
