President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday presented the Bharat Ratna awards to four eminent nominees including former PM PV Narasimha Rao (posthumously), former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh (posthumously), and agronomist MS Swaminathan. The ceremony was held at the Durbar Hall in Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda also attended the ceremony. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was also present at the award ceremony.
Narasimha Rao's award was received by his son PV Prabhakar Rao.
Former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh's grandson Jayant Singh received the Bharat Ratna for his grandfather.
MS Swaminathan's award was received by MS Swaminathan's daughter Nitya Rao.
President Murmu also conferred the top civilian award on former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur. His son Ram Nath Thakur, received the award on his behalf.
President Murmu will visit the house of former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP Leader Lal Krishna Advani on Sunday (March 31) to present the Bharat Ratna Award to him. He is a veteran politician and the longest-serving president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
