New Delhi: As cases of coronavirus continues to rise in Karnataka, the government plans to use lockdown and sealing in areas with high concentration of cases to control the spread of the virus in the capital city Bengaluru. According to ANI the Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that those areas with about 3-4 cases of coronavirus or covid clusters will be sealed and testing will be increased.

“It has been decided that clusters (areas having 3-4 COVID19 cases) will be totally sealed and maximum testing will be done there,” said Bommai.

He also added that “Only critical cases will be shifted to Covid hospitals. I demanded that police personnel are tested on priority.”

A statement by the Chief minister’s office has said that lockdown will be imposed in cluster areas especially K.R. Market and surrounding areas such as Siddapura, VV Puram, Kalasipalya, and others. It was also decided to seal the adjoining streets, where the cases have been reported. The official release also said that action will be taken against those who violate the lockdown protocols and FIR will be filed if necessary.

Earlier today the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had called an emergency meeting with ministers and senior officials to discuss the coronavirus situation in the state. According to a report by PTI Yediyurappa said that the spread of the virus can only be controlled if preventive measures are implemented strictly and have asked the officials to work in this direction.

"COVID-19 should be contained without affecting the economic activities in Bengaluru, which resumed recently," the Chief Minister said in the report.

The report also said that the civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has said that there are 298 active containment zones in the city. At present, the state has recorded a total of 9150 coronavirus cases, out of which 3395 are active cases.
