New Delhi: In the second such incident this month, another Bengali actress, Bidisha De Majumdar, was found dead in her Kolkata apartment. Majumdar, a model-turned-actress, was found hanging at her apartment in Dumdum on Wednesday. The incident comes days after another Bengali actress, Pallavi Dey, was found dead in her South Kolkata residence on May 16.

Nagerbazar Police has started an investigation into the incident and are probing whether it was a suicide or some other reason behind Majumdar's death, reported ABP Ananda.

A suicide note was found near the body in which it was written that she was taking the extreme step due to a lack of career opportunities, PTI quoted a police officer as saying.

Bidisha's body has been sent to RG Kar hospital for postmortem. The actress was reportedly living in the rented flat in Dumdum for the last four years. The actress's home is in Naihati, ABP Ananda reported.

Bidisha, a popular face in the modeling industry, made her acting debut in Anirbed Chattopadhyay-directed film "Bhaar- The Clown" in 2021. Popular actor Debraj Mukherjee was seen in the lead role in the short film.

"Why did you do this? Only yesterday you changed your Facebook dp, cover pic and instagram dp. You had posted after the suicide of serial actress Pallabi Dey that one should not have taken such a hasty step. And now you yourself have done the same thing," model Santu Mondal posted on social media.

The two deaths have once again thrown the spotlight on the serious issue of depression in the film industry. Pallavi Dey was also found hanging at her rented accommodation where she used to stay with her friend Shagnik Chakraborty.

After Pallavi's death, Bidisha had posted on Facebook, saying, "I couldn't accept".

A preliminary post-mortem report suggested that Dey had died by suicide. However, police are also probing the "abatement to suicide" angle in the case after Pallavi's parents alleged that Shagnik entered into a live-in relationship with their daughter while supressing the fact that he was married.
