In a case of bizarre twin murders, two people have been arrested for allegedly beheading their wives and roaming with the severed head in public.

In the first case, a man was arrested in West Bengal for killing his wife and dancing with her severed head in Purba Medinipur district.

The accused, identified as 40-year-old Goutam Guchhait, from Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal was seen carrying his wife's severed head in one hand and a sickle in another while roaming around a bus stop making threatening remarks.

The incident occurred in Purba Medinipur district on February 14, a day when Valentine's Day coincided with Saraswati Puja. The accused has been arrested.

As per a report in NDTV, the man beheaded his wife due to family-related issues. He then went to the nearby bus stop and kept walking around with the severed head. The horrific incident was captured by locals on their mobile phones.

The police arrived after an hour and discovered the body of the wife Fulrani Guchhait. The husband was taken into custody and the body was sent for post-mortem. His parents claimed that the accused was mentally unstable.

In another incident, UP Police arrested a man in UP's Barabanki for allegedly decapitating his wife and walking with her skull on Friday.

Anil Kanojia, a resident of the Basara village in the Fatehpur police station area of the district, allegedly attacked his wife Vandana (28) with a cleaver following an argument in the morning and decapitated her head.

The man, drenched in blood, then picked up the severed skull of his wife and began walking towards the police station. He was later arrested by a police team on his way.

"Kanojia suspected his wife of adultery. The couple had estranged relations and they often used to argue. Prima facie it appears that he killed his wife in a gruesome manner following arguments in the morning," Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Singh said. Police have sent the body for a postmortem examination.
