Bhopal: Bashir Badr who is known for his poems and literary work has finally received his Ph.D. degree from the Aligarh Muslim University after a wait of several decades.
Badr was actually conferred a doctorate in the year 1973 but was unable to receive it physically. AMU on a special request from his wife has now sent the degree to his home in Bhopal.
On Monday, AMU sent the Ph.D. degree to his residence. He finished his Ph.D. in 1973 and on August 12, 1974 he joined the Urdu department of Meerut College as a lecturer. He stayed at Meerut College till 1990.
Badr was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 for his contribution to literature and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He has also received the Sahitya Akademi Award in Urdu for his poetry collection "Aas" in 1999.
This period of 1974-1990 was special for Bashir Badr. During the time he enjoyed a high status in the galleries of Urdu poets. When he joined Meerut College, he was already a well-known name in the world of poetry.

Bashir Badr is filled with talent to the brim when it comes to conveying his feelings and expressions in simple words. He stands tall in the line of people who made Ghazal more accepted in the culture popular.
He started writing poems at the age of seven. Badr's literary work includes collection of ghazals titled Ikai, Kulliyate Bashir Badr, Aamad, Image, Aahat, and Devanagari script ghazals titled Ujale Apni Yadon Ke. During his career, he wrote two books titled Azadi Ke Bad Urdu Ghazals Ka Tanqidi Mutala (Critical study of Urdu ghazal after independence) and Biswin Sadi Mein Ghazal (Ghazals in 20th century) focused on literary criticism.
Badr was born in 1935, near Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya, and attended the local school for early schooling. Later, he moved to Aligarh Muslim University where he did his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. He also served as the Chairman of the Urdu Academy.
The literary figure whose couplets are quoted by Indian Politicians including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, as well as international figures such as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
