New Delhi: On late Tuesday evening, another veteran singer and composer Bappi Lahiri passed away at the age of 69 years. Lahiri took his last breath at Mumbai’s Criticare hospital. He was being treated there for multiple health issues. 


According to a report by news agency PTI, Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, director of Criticare hospital said that Lahiri was admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday after he was stabilised. 


However, on Tuesday evening his condition relapsed and he was taken back to the hospital where he took his last before midnight due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).


Lahiri was known for popularising disco in the Indian subcontinent in the decades of the 80s and 90s. 


After his demise, many people are coming forward to express their sorrow and condolences to his family. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his condolences, wrote on Twitter, "Shri Bappi Lahiri Ji’s music was all encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could relate to his works. His lively nature will be missed by everyone. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."






Writer and Film historian Gautham Chintamani took to Twitter to pay his respect to Lahiri. He wrote, “Saddened to hear about #BappiLahiri’s demise. A icon and a legend, Bappi da struck an impeccable balance of mood, melody and arrangement when it came songs. An integral part of growing up, Bappi da will remain forever. Kabhi alvida na kehana… Om Shanti.”






Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also took to Twitter to share condolences. He wrote, "A legend rests in peace. Deeply saddened by the demise of popular music composer & singer Sh Bappi Lahiri Ji.  My condolences to his family, fans & admirers. Om Shanti!"






Union Minister Nitin Gadkaari wrote on Koo, "Deeply pained by the demise of veteran music composer & singer Bappi Lahiri ji. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers. ॐ शांति"







BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra wrote on Twitter, "Another legend with golden voice is no more! Shocked to hear about the demise of rockstar @BappiLahiri. His music will always remain in our hearts. Om Shanti!!"






Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb also extended his condolences. He wrote, "Extremely saddened by the passing away of the great music icon Bappi Lahiri Ji. He introduced India to disco and revolutionized the Indian Music. His music will remain in our hearts forever. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti!"






Film critic Taran Adarsh wrote, "Shocked and saddened to hear about the demise of legendary music composer - singer #BappiLahiri ji… Deepest condolences to his family… Om Shanti."






Cricketer Yuvraj Singh also expressed his sorrow saying, "Sad news of the passing away of legendary musician #BappiLahiri ji he will be fondly remembered for his mesmerising musical compositions which are loved by people of all ages. My condolences to the family. RIP #BappiDa ॐ शान्ति|"






Filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote, "Another legend gone. #BappiLahiri. Had the good fortune of working closely with him when I shot an ad for p&g and then when I worked with White Feather Films for @_SanjayGupta. Man of incredible melody and talent."






Film Critic Joginder Tuteja wrote, "Oh no, #BappiLahiri is no more. Really sad news. He is one veteran composer-singer who was still active #YaadAaRahaHaiTeraPyaar."
