The Border Security Forces said in a statement that a BSF constable was gheraoed and assaulted on June 2 by a group of Bangladeshi miscreants, who hurled abuses at him and even tried to drag him towards their country's side.

The BSF Constable, Bhole, was performing his duties at the outpost at the India-Bangladesh Border, where he was tasked with operating the fence gate, news agency ANI reported citing the BSF.

"At about 1330 hrs, a large group of Bangladeshi miscreants crossed over the International Border illegally and gathered near the fencing gate with the intention of smuggling sugar,"the BSF said.

The BSF also stated that the Bangladeshi miscreants began hurling abusive language at the BSF constable and instigated the Constable on duty with "provocative language and vulgar gestures".

"The Bangladeshi miscreants gheraoed and assaulted Constable Bhole and attempted to drag him towards the Bangladesh side," the BSF said.

They also snatched the BSF constable's weapon and radio set.

Although Constable Bhole managed to escape, he sustained sustained grievous injuries, as the Bangladeshi miscreants assaulted him with bamboo sticks and iron rods.

Following the incident, a commandant-level flag meeting was held with the Bangladeshi counterpart, and the BSF also lodged a strong protest.

BSF said that the snatched weapon and radio set were handed back to them by Border Guard Bangladesh.

According to media reports, the incident is said to have occurred in Tripura and the Bangladeshi miscreants who were involved in the incident were armed.
