New Delhi: With moist eyes Atatl Bihari Vajpayee's daughter Namita immersed his ashes in river Ganga in Har-Ki-Pauri, Haridwar on Sunday as thousands including BJP chief Amit Shah and Union Minister Rajnath Singh witnessed the ritual in silence.


Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah, UP CM Adityanath and Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat carried the ashes of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee in a grand cavalcade.

The Asthi Kalash Yatra reached Har-Ki-Pauri amid chants of  ‘Atal Bihari Amar Rahe’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.  the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes were today immersed in the holy river Ganga Haridwar following a huge cavalcade.

The immersion procession was attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanth, his Uttarakhand counterpart Trivendra Singh Rawat among other leaders.

Hundreds of people flocked to attend the final procession of the departed leader.


The’ Asthi Kalash Yatra’ started from Panna Lal Bhalla Municipal Inter College in Haridwar. From there the ashes were taken to Prem Ashram then to Har-ki-Pauri ghat for immersion.




Late Vajpayee's daughter Namita and granddaughter Niharika arrived at Smriti Sthal in Delhi on Sunday and collected ashes of the former prime minister. Three urns carrying ashes of Vajpayee collected from Smriti Sthal were then taken to Uttarakhand for immersion in the holy river Ganga.




One of the most charismatic leaders in independent India, Vajpayee passed away in Delhi on Thursday at the age of 93. He was cremated with full State honours at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal in the national capital yesterday.

An all-party prayer meeting for the BJP stalwart will be held in Delhi on August 20 and another such meeting will be organised in Lucknow on August 23 since Vajpayee's appeal cut across political divide.

The prayer meeting in Delhi will be attended by leaders from different political parties and noted citizens.
